Aug. 3) - A Mister Softee ice cream truck driver was arrested on New York’s Long island after he was caught peddling more than frozen treats, police said.
Kenneth Leiton, 22, of Elmont, N.Y, was arrested Saturday after undercover police officers working on an unrelated case said they saw him stop his truck in front of a house in Westbury, knock on the door and give the woman who answered a bag of cocaine in exchange for money, the New York Post reported.
Investigators said several bags of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine were found in Leiton's ice cream truck. He also allegedly had a bag of marijuana.
Leiton was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third and fifth degree, third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Polie said the last charge was made because kids anxious to buy ice cream were running up to the truck at the time of th drug sale, Newsday reported.
Bail for Leitin was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
